John Kunzier

John Kunzier

Background: one of the founders of TNT volleyball; a veteran volleyball coach and technical instructor with more than 25 years of experience at the club, high school, and former NCAA Division I level coach
Experience: girls' volleyball programs in York, Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia region; a former D1 coach at La Salle University; has worked at TNT with ages groups 13U and up; since 2024 has served as technical assistant coach for North Penn High School girls' volleyball, helping the team achieve a program-best 16-3 record in 2025

John's work focuses on technical and athletic development through hitting, setting, defense, passing, serve receive, and blocking. He works with developing and advanced players to identify weaknesses, refine technique, and build skills that translate directly into competitive game situations, with an emphasis on developing technically sound, confident, and adaptable volleyball players.

John's coaching philosophy begins with fundamentals but doesn't end there. He believes athletes should first develop repeatable mechanics and an understanding of why a skill works, then progressively layer advanced techniques, decision-making, offensive and defensive concepts, and game strategy onto that foundation. His approach emphasizes defensive fundamentals, accuracy, continuous pressure, and aggressive play. John approaches coaching as player development rather than simply team development, meeting athletes at their current level, challenging them appropriately, and providing the technical knowledge, repetitions, confidence, and competitive mindset needed to reach the next level of their game.

His sessions build foundational skills (serving, passing, setting, attacking) then progress to body movement, posture, and power through step-by-step instruction and specific feedback to help achieve the athlete’s goals. When athletes understand the "how" and "why" behind the skills they are learning, they become more invested and ultimately more successful
