Jamal Corbin - 12U Girls National and 16U Boys Travel

Coaching Experience:

First started at Abington High School in 1994, coaching boys and girls until 2000. This overlapped with an 11 year run at Penn State Abington, coaching the Men's and Women's programs from 1997-2008.

Took a hiatus following the birth of my first child, then returned to coaching in 2016 at Abington HS, and Infinity Volleyball Academy (2016-2022). Started working with TNT in 2020 helping out with Pembryn clinics, then came over to coach girls' and boys' teams in 2022. Also currently an assistant coach at Hatboro Horsham.

Coaching Philosophy:

The path to success often requires accepting and embracing the risk of failure. What's important is to learn from your mistakes so that you can allow yourself to grow.

Coaching Certifications:

Impact Certified, also completed USAV CAP I

Playing Experience:

Penn State Volleyball Club - primarily as an OH and OPP, but also played MB, S and a bit of DS.
Years of men's and coed doubles on the beach and grass, playing A, AA or occasionally Open depending on who I was paired up with.
Mostly retired from playing for the past 20-ish years due to wear and tear, but I can be coaxed into getting on the court during a practice or open gym session.

Best Coaching Memory:

Having the opportunity to coach both of my children has been very fulfilling, because they are finally able to experience some of the joy and rewards I felt and achieved as a player myself.
Now, having said that, very high up on the list as well is my 2001 Men's team at Penn State Abington, which went the entire season without dropping a single set. (if the kids ask, it's that first part).

Favorite Quote:  “Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.” - Vince Lombardi

Favorite Movie: "Scott Pilgrim vs the World"

When I'm Not Coaching, I'm ... Aside from working my regular 9-5, when I'm not coaching, you'd probably find me watching volleyball or NBA basketball, or maybe playing a video game, possibly having a nap, or if it's really late at night, playing one of my guitars.
What my wife would say I do most of the time is "entertain" her by talking about volleyball ALL. THE. TIME. lol.
